Digital technologies are crucial to so many aspects of our lives – now more than ever.

The tech sector offers a huge variety of rewarding careers for those with the right digital skills.

You have unique real-world experience to share with our young people, showing them what your industry has to offer and what it’s like to really work in tech. This is a great opportunity for you to personally inspire the "digital humans" of the future.

Working with young people

It’s exciting to work with school pupils! You’ll be bringing life to their learning by sharing your industry experience.

It may also seem a little daunting but there is lots of support to help you organise an engaging session.

Bringing Scotland's tech industry into the classroom

We’re in a time of virtual engagement. It may be disappointing to not be able to chat with young people in school. But online sessions are valuable experiences and offer some extra advantages - you can 'visit' more schools and 'meet' more pupils!

Supporting schools and teachers

You may be worried you don't have the skills to interact with a class of learners. But remember you’re an industry professional, not a teacher. What you bring to the classroom is real-life experience of working in the digital world, giving pupils a chance to interact with a tech professional.

Just talking about your role, what you do in your job and answering students' questions about working in tech will be helping them to understand the digital world. Not only that but by talking about the other teams you work with, you can introduce them to the huge variety of roles in the tech industry.

Resources to help you create a fun session

You'll be bringing the school subject to life for pupils by helping them try an activity that shows the value of their learning in a work-related context.

There are lots of ideas and activities already available, created by computer science educators working with Skills Development Scotland. These are fun activities to get pupils working together to solve problems in areas like digital forensics and software development.

This means you can provide a high quality activity, aligned to the curriculum, that helps them learn something new. It’s a chance for the pupils to play with technology, and it means your session will be something different for them.

How to get involved

Sign up to Marketplace

Register for Marketplace and join a growing community who are already engaging with schools through events, workshops and placements.

Upload your opportunity

Create the opportunity specific to your business and role. Make sure to add 'DSE' at the start of your session title so we know it's part of this digital schools programme. Once approved, teachers can book it through My World of Work.

Make the connection

Once a school has expressed an interest in your opportunity, you'll get the details and you can work with them to make the arrangements.
